Street photography using google streetview

Google streetview capture of a Hong Kong corner building

Photo: Michael Wolf / Google

This image of a Hong Kong corner building and many others from the galleries of Michael Wolf are edited from his trawling of the material on google streetview. This interpreting and editing of google’s content has come in for some criticism which Geoff Dyer expands on in his Guardian article about Wolf and his work.

Another use of google’s streetview were these unexpected captures and I have also experimented with the program for tracking down ghostsigns. It proved useful when pinpointing locations for the archive project and comes remarkably close to the feeling of turning a corner, looking up and seeing a new one for the first time.
