Kotanyi Paprika: Stunning Vienna Reveal
Looking barely aged since it was painted in 1963, this fabulous ghostsign for Kotanyi Paprika has just been revealed in Vienna, Austria. The demolition of the adjacent building fortuitously precedes the publication of Ghost Letters of Vienna, and happened just in time to make it onto the cover of the book. (See previous post about the publication.) With news interest in the sign including a TV appearance, an archival photo of the sign surfaced via the daughter of the original sign painter, Stern Schilder Siebdruck GmbH.
The book will be launched at a formal ‘Night of the Signs’ event at the Wien Museum which I am honoured to be attending having made a short written contribution. While there I’ll also be visiting some of the signs depicted in the book, and the very small signwriters’ museum in the city. If you are based in Vienna or fancy attending from elsewhere then come along on the evening of Thursday 20 October.
