Sign Painter Movie / Horn Please Double Bill

I’m very excited to announce that The Sign Painter Movie is coming to London and will be screened alongside Horn Please on Wednesday, 5 February 2014 [Update: Sold Out, tickets now added for Thursday, 6 February and Friday, 7 February]. The tickets were released on Friday and are selling fast, even though the event is almost two months away. This isn’t surprising as It’s sold out in many locations around the world so book now to make sure you can be part this special event. While the directors won’t be present, there will be some contemporary sign painters on hand to take questions after the films.
I’ve been following the film’s progress since I first heard about it in 2009 or so, and it’s great that I’ve now had a hand in bringing it to London. I first wrote about it on this 2011 blog post and earlier this year reviewed both the film and the book. I was also lucky enough to get a sneak preview of Horn Please back in May and it will make a great starter for the Sign Painter Movie main.
While the main thrust of my work is in documenting and researching ghostsigns, I have increasingly felt a need to promote the great work that is currently being done by sign painters/writers around the world. This screening is part of that effort, following up on my book about Cambodian signs and numerous blog posts on other people and locations. Although styles, languages and traditions vary across borders and cultures, there seems to be nowhere on earth that hasn’t been touched by hand-painted signs of one form or another. This double bill will serve to demonstrate that diversity through two strong traditions, the USA and India.
I can’t wait until February and hope that you, friends and colleagues will be able to join me in this celebration of the world’s hand-painted signs and the men and women who create them.
