The above episode of Reading Rainbow featured a reading of Roget Roth’s children’s book, The Sign Painter’s Dream. That ends at about ten minutes in and then it cuts to some interesting material about Times Square’s ‘spectaculars’, the large neon signs that the square is famed for, much like London’s Piccadilly Circus. This focuses on the work of sign-makers Artkraft Strauss.
The book itself is ridiculously expensive on Amazon but you can pick up second-hand copies on AbeBooks (also in the USA). I’ve also added the other children’s books mentioned in the show to a new area of the bookstore.
