Ghost Signs of Kidderminster by Laurie Abraham

Collage showing various ghostsigns in Kidderminster

Laurie Abraham

This collage, ‘Ghost Signs of Kidderminster’, by Laurie Abraham scooped first prize in a competition to depict the heritage of Kidderminster in the Midlands. It puts together a number of signs of different types from around the central market area, including those painted by hand, chiselled from stone, relief lettering and even brick colours used to depict the date of a building.

This and a number of other entries will feature in an exhibition opening today at the Museum of Carpet and this article gives a bit more background to the competition.

The sign one in from the top right can be found in the History of Advertising Trust Ghostsigns Archive, one of two (currently) from the collection. More examples from this area can be found in the (largely inactive) Flickr group ‘Ghost Signs from Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley’.
