Renaissance Graffito 1

I just came across this interesting slideshow which was linked from an excellent set of photos from Montana (currently six pages worth).

It is a series of photos depicting the restoration of some Renaissance Graffito on the wall of a Tuscan villa. Graffito is obviously the origin of the word graffiti and it is interesting here that wall painting was used back in the 16th Century to decorate buildings. These guys were renovating the villa and had stripped away several layers of paint from the outer wall when they came across this design and paid to have it restored. This might seem like some of the oldest evidence of wall painting but for that you have to go even further back to Pompeii and even the ancient egyptians. There’s another slideshow on the main site about the villa.
